The creator of TMR defines it as, “a modified positional release concept that uses an evaluation and feedback system to assess and treat postural asymmetry in order to achieve objective improvements in functional outcomes.”
In short, we can assess the body for imbalances in movements and, by eliminating them, help improve movement and function.
TMR Tots was originally designed to address movement challenges in children with contractors and tightness due to issues such as cerebral palsy and torticollis. While still very helpful in that patient population, TMR can help anyone who has tightness in the body negatively affecting movement.
The treating therapist will assess movements such as: trunk and hip rotation, flexion and extension and side bending, to find which way the body moves more easily. Following this preference, the therapist helps the patient hold position of release which allow tight tissues to be put on slack. As range of motion is improved, positions will progress, until symmetry of movement is acquired.
